Campaign
What is Fort Wayne Connect?
With Fort Wayne Connect, we’re helping to forge new connections between people in and around the city. Whether you’re a Fort Wayne native, a regular commuter from nearby, or a new visitor to the big city, there is much to gain from walking beyond the physical health benefits. Our mission is to show people how walking can help strengthen the Fort Wayne community and build up the town into a cultural center bursting with life. To meet this end, our main goal is to encourage people to get active in the city, and encourage you to get excited and involved; all with the simple act of walking! So if you want to know how we can help you Find Your Wayne, keep reading to see our campaign to promote and improve walking in Fort Wayne.

Our Presence in the City

The first step in forging connections through walking is making accessible marketing. By building our presence in the city, we’re creating natural and seamless integration into people’s daily lives. But we take it a step further than just advertising our organization and our mission.
We want to help get people involved by providing functional services around the city. While the walkable roads we have are great, we recognize the importance of building up new infrastructure to support alternate modes of transportation. That’s why we’re continuing to work with local and state governments to get funding for new sidewalks and other walking paths. First introduced in the Walk Fort Wayne plan, we’re continuing development in each area of the city that needs it most.
With all these new connections being made, we believe that ease of use should be a top priority. To further this goal, we’re working to place navigational signs around the city. Each color denotes a region of Fort Wayne, and each shape denotes the type of road. Included on the signs as well are the street names and nearby places of interest. Square shape signs indicate the most major throughfares, with the most connection points and places of interest. Circles represent the secondary level of roads, with less places of interest, and less foot traffic. Diamonds represent tertiary roads and other minor connection points. We’re also trying to integrate this system with the trail network in our city, while also denoting their unique classification. So keep an eye out for these guides as they help you Find Your Wayne.
